I chose to share this video to contrast the traditional folk music. This video contains a compilation of 'chill' Indonesian music that's suggested for listening to in coffee shops and the like. Essentially, this playlist will give you a bit of insight into the modern music world in Indonesia. In this music, you can easily hear the influence of traditional folk music, but it's also extremely modernized by influences of other cultures and the addition of computerized technology. It's important to remember when analyzing cultures different from our own that they are not living in the past, they're in the now. Right now someone is living in Indonesia living in this culture and wondering what it's like to be enveloped in American culture, just as I am wondering what it would be like to live in theirs.
